RIDE Checks On Ice

A Partnership Helps Nab Even More Drunk Drivers

A partnership between the Ministry of Natural Resources and the South Simcoe Police was able to net 16 anglers who should have taken to the backseat when coming off the ice of Lake Simcoe.
450 vehicles were stopped in the RIDE program at three separate locations, 16 drivers were given roadside breathalyzer tests. Seven of those stopped were charged with various traffic act offenses. Other charges including fishing without a license and fishing over the limit were issued. Police and the MNR would like to remind everyone to be responsible and to not drink and drive and to protect the environment.
