Sting is in Toronto for the next few weeks performing in The Last Ship, the musical. The show is about his hometown of Newcastle, England. The show’s theme is about that community when its main industry, shipbuilding, was shut down.
Sting says he can relate to the Workers in Oshawa so the entire cast has volunteered to go to Oshawa to perform in solidarity with GM workers.
The show is happening this Thursday at the Tribute Communities Centre on Athol St. GM announced in November it was closing its Oshawa assembly plant, which means the loss of 2,600 unionized jobs.
