Stranger Things Star, Gaten Matarazzo Under Going More Surgery For Rare Bone Disorder

“This is the big one”

The 17-year-old has cleidocranial dysplasia, which affects the growth of his bones and teeth.

This will be the fourth procedure for Gaten who didn’t appear worried and frightened when posting a pic from his hospital bed with a thumbs up to social media on Wednesday.

“Surgery number 4! This is a big one!” he wrote on Instagram.

Gaten admits that this disease is a big reason for his career stalling-

“It’s one of the reasons why I haven’t been getting roles, because of my lisp, and the teeth situation, and my height,” he said in 2018, during an appearance on The Doctors. “That affected pretty much everything. I would go three times a week for auditions all the time and get constant ‘no.’ ” 

But Gaten says that his disorder actually helped him land the role of Dustin of Stranger Things!

Matarazzo now works with CCD Smiles, a non-profit organization that raises money and awareness for people with the condition. He told PEOPLE
