Six Separate Incidences of Funny Money Being Spent in Barrie

Looks like Barrie is getting a bit of a counterfeit problem. We told you earlier this week of two people Barrie Police say made small purchases at the Old Navy on Bayfield two Tuesdays ago, using counterfeit US currency. Investigators now believe one of the two, the male suspect, also spent some funny money at the Sears across the street on the same day. Meanwhile, a femaleUS Counterfeit Bill Passed a Second Time In One Week suspect allegedly spent counterfeit American 50 dollar bills at the Source on Mapleview and a sub shop nearby, while two other men allegedly used phony fifties to make separate purchases at a local McDonald’s shop. The female suspect is described as:

  • black
  • Approximately 30-35 yrs.
  • 5’6”
  • Medium build
  • Black hair tied up in a high ponytail
  • Wearing sunglasses, grey sweater, dark shirt and carrying a white purse.

  • Wearing a black jacket, grey track pants and blue/black shoes with white trim.

Suspect # 2:

  • Approximately 18-21 yrs.
  • Thin build
  • Black short hair
  • Wearing a red toque, black jacket, grey “Toronto Blue Jays” shirt, dark ripped skinny jeans and black shoes.

If you have counterfeit US currency in your possession you are asked to contact police. If you are unsure of the currency authenticity, follow these steps to certify the real value of your money.

  • Counterfeit money will often feel distinctly different from authentic money.
  • Genuine money is often thinner than counterfeit money.
  • Compare the bill with another legit bill of the same denomination.
  • Inspect the printing quality.
  • Examine the serial numbers; each bill will have a different serial number.
  • Check the security features on the bill. The bills will be equipped with a security thread (plastic strip) that runs vertically and the bill will have watermarks.
