Tentative Deals Reached With Public Elementary Teachers, Support Staff

No More Work-To-Rule; Progress Reports Coming

Marathon bargaining over the past few days has resulted in tentative deals being reached with public elementary teachers (ETFO) and support workers (CUPE). The head of ETFO says the deal for teachers is fair and meets the needs of teachers. Work-to-rule action has been suspended pending the outcome of voting, which is expected to take place by mid-November. The deadline for preparing fall progress reports for students has been extended to December 11. Education Minister Liz Sandals says the deal meets the government’s “net zero” framework, meaning any wage increases or other boosts are offset with cuts or savings and do not affect classroom experiences.
