A Vancouver-based think-tank says you paid more taxes than you think last year. The folks over at the Fraser Institute say the average Canadian family paid just over $34,000 in taxes of all kinds last year, including hidden business taxes passed along in the price. You pay more in income tax than any other taxes, with the Institute estimating governments collected an average $10,616. Next up, payroll and health taxes at an average $7,160, sales ($4,973), then property ($3,832) taxes. All told, study authors say about 42 per cent of our average income went to taxes in 2015.
