Tis The Season For Fraudulent Activity
Complaints up in parts of Simcoe County
Watch your back. Police are reminding everyone to be mindful of scams this holiday season. Southern Georgian Bay OPP say fraudsters have been overly active in their region with inheritance scams, softwear companies wanting to sell you stuff over the phone, people wanting to check your furnace and people purporting to be from Revenue Canada demanding payment now – even though you don’t owe anything. Best advice goes like this:
- never send money or give out personal information over the phone
- verify the information given by the caller before agreeing to anything
- and if there’s any sense of urgency on the part of the caller be very wary
