Exploring the jobs of the future

Barrie’s technology industry will be front and centre today at the Train in Technology Expo at Barrie Molson Centre. It’s a a chance to learn about emerging technology-related career paths and employment opportunities. It starts at 11am and goes until 7pm. Admission is free. “The Barrie area is emerging as a tech hub with world-class start-ups, several large data centres, and businesses that are quick to innovate and incorporate new technologies into their daily activities,” said Stephannie Schlichter, Director of Business Development at the City of Barrie. “The Train in Technology Expo is one way we are trying to get people interested in these types of career opportunities, so we can ensure that we have the future labour pool to keep this momentum going.”

Event highlights include:

  • A number of new local tech start-ups showcased
  • Keynote by Norm Chatelier from IBM (12:30 p.m.) speaking about the importance of training in tech and the opportunities/future skills gap challenge
  • Local robotics teams will be competing and providing demonstrations.
  • Talkin tech panel (5:30 p.m.) which will include Marc Hill (Digital Giants), Steve Loftus (Innovative Automation), Mark Reckzin (Mechanical Engineering Student at Georgian), and Ben Bailey (Barrie Techno-Tigers team member)
