Truck Inspections Called Into Question

Truck tire death on 400 raises concern

Concern has been raised about truck inspections in the province after the truck tire death of a Burlington man this week on Highway 400 near King Road. NDP Transportation Critic Wayne Gates notes it’s not the first time tires have flown off trucks; the Ministry of Transportation acknowledging such incidents more than doubled between 2010 and 2015, from 47 to 127. OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt says truckers need to fully inspect their rigs daily – and that means getting down and checking the tightness of lug nuts by hand.
