Two Local Facilities Among Dozen At Heart Of $36m Settlement

Residents Of Muskoka Centre and Adult Occupational Facility To Share In Settlement

A settlement has been reached for former residents of 12 developmental services facilities after a class action lawsuit says the province failed to properly care for the people who went there. Of the twelve institutions, two are in our region. Those who were at the Muskoka Centre from ’73 to 1993, and the Adult Occupational Centre in Edgar from 1966 to ’99 will be eligible to share in the $36 million settlement. The legal team behind the suit are going to start handing out funds. Ontario initially denied claims the residents of these facilities suffered emotional, physical, and psychological trauma from their experiences.
