Vanessa Hudgens Pays Up For Rock Carving Scandal

Actress Paid $1,000 for defacing a rock in Sedona, Arizona

Vanessa Hudgens recently got in hot water during a Valentine’s Day trip to Sedona, Nevada with her boyfriend. The actress posted a photo to her Instagram account of a rock carved with her and her boyfriends names in a 1-by-1 foot heart.

Followers alerted authorities who (needless to say!) were not impressed. The rock, known as Bell Rock, is a popular tourist destination. While she’s not the first person to vandalize it, most are not celebrities- or at least not celebrities silly enough to post it on social media.

Damaging natural features is considered a misdemeanor by U.S. law, and is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine. Vanessa got off with a $1,000 fine, and a lot of bad press!

When you are visiting parks this summer, please respect your surroundings. That means keeping litter off the ground, not feeding wildlife and certainly not vandalizing trees or other natural features!

Was $1,000 a hash enough punishment for Vanessa’s actions? Will people learn from her mistakes?
