Vatican Clearing The Air Following Papal Visit With Controversial County Clerk

Late September meeting met with mixed reaction

The Vatican is distancing the Pope from Kim Davis. During the pontiff’s visit to the United States, he met with Davis, a Kentucky county clerk made famous after going to jail for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Now the Vatican is saying in a statement this morning that their meeting should not be considered a form of support of her position. The statement says she was one of “several dozen people” the Pope met with over his trip, which are par for the course for any papal visit.
