Florida State University research has found people who wash the dishes by hand enjoy reduced stress. But only if they do it mindfully – taking in the scent of the soap, feeling the water temperature. Those who did upped their feelings of inspiration by 25 per cent and lowered their nervousness levels by 27 per cent compared to those who consider doing dishes a mundane activity.  The researchers suggest this kind of mindfulness could be achieved in a variety of common activities, possibly reducing stress and improve psychological well-being.
