We Play Toilet Bowl Hockey

They’re loud. They’re wacky. They’re in your face. But they’re mine.

We have a Family Weekend tradition every January, The Annual Toilet Bowl Game.

An outdoor ball hockey game between my parents, cousins, aunts, uncles, the entire family! And it’s very official. We pick team captains, then they pick the teams. We even have a referee and sing “O’Canada” before every game.

That’s our trophy.

Yes. We have a trophy. And it gets awarded to the captain on the LOSING team, who must proudly display it, (or say they’re going to anyway), at their home for an entire year, until another captain earns it the following January.

Might seem weird to you, but this is family to me. And this specific tradition we have, I will always hold close to my heart… even if I had to take home the trophy this year!
