In a world of overly photoshopped and botoxed celebrities, one star is taking a stance. Alicia Keys vowed to go makeup-free for a year, and has kept her word. From appearing as a new Judge on The Voice to on the red carpet at last weekend’s Video Music Awards (VMAs).

While other celebrities, like Courtney Cox, blame the pressures of staying young in Hollywood for their almost unrecognizable appearances, 35-year-old Alicia Keys is carving her own path, and refusing to care what others think about it. “I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.”
So why is something as simple as going makeup-free so important?
In today’s society, hating your appearance is the norm- especially amongst young women. Take Kylie Jenner, for example, who got lip injections at just 17-years-old. Instead of condemning the use of cosmetic surgery for teens, plastic surgeons have gone on to brag about how Kylie has created a trend amongst teens wanting fuller lips.
Alicia Keys is an incredible (and much-needed) role model for young women everywhere. Beautiful, brave, and not afraid to be herself. If that’s not “Kool,” we don’t know what is!
Please share her inspiring message with young women everywhere!
