Why We Drink

It's not because we're celebrating.

Drinkaware is a charity behind research that found the main reason people drink is to cope with the pressures of day-to-day life!

The survey found that drinkers between the ages of 18 to 75, 58% of them do so to cheer themselves up when they are in a mad mood.

41% of those surveyed drank because it helps where they feel depressed or nervous.

38% said people drink to forget their problems at least some of the time. This is more evident with people in low social incomes.

Drinkaware chief executive Elaine Hindal said: ‘Whilst people might think having a drink after a hard day can help them relax, in the long run it can contribute to feelings of depression and anxiety and make stress harder to deal with.’
