Widespread Quake Destruction In Italy, Myanmar

Death toll continues to climb

The destruction in central Italy from Wednesday’s earthquake is so severe, so widespread mainly due to the shallow fault line and buildings, built of stone centuries ago – when little if anything was known of earthquakes. The death toll has reached 159 as searchers work with their hands and heavy equipment to move the rubble in hopes of finding survivors.
