Canadian wrestling fans made their feelings loud and clear on Saturday night as they drowned out the U.S. national anthem with boos at WWE’s Elimination Chamber event at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
Fans Jeer During “Star-Spangled Banner”
A clip making the rounds on social media shows the crowd booing for nearly a minute while Canadian singer Elizabeth Irving performed the “Star-Spangled Banner.” The reaction follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threats to impose 25% tariffs on Canadian goods and his controversial comments about Canada becoming the 51st state.
A Growing Trend of Boos Across Canada
This isn’t the first time American anthems have been met with resistance lately. Similar booing has been heard at NHL games in Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver, as well as at recent Toronto Raptors home games.
