Published March 21, 2025

Disney and Pixar are officially heading back to the Land of the Dead! After years of speculation, the studios have confirmed that Coco 2 is in early development and set for a 2029 theatrical release.

🎬 What We Know So Far

  • Directors: Coco’s original director, Lee Unkrich, is returning alongside Adrian Molina.
  • Producer: Pixar veteran Mark Nielsen (Toy Story 4Inside Out 2).
  • Plot: Still under wraps! But given the first film’s emotional depth, expect another heartwarming journey.

🎶 A Legacy to Live Up To

The 2017 original film was a global phenomenon, grossing over $800 million worldwide and winning two Oscars(Best Animated Feature & Best Original Song for Remember Me). Coco followed Miguel, a 12-year-old boy who dreams of being a musician despite his family’s ban on music.

His adventure in the Land of the Dead during Día de los Muertos brought generations together—both on and off-screen.

While Coco 2 is still years away, fans are already buzzing about what’s next for Miguel and his familia. Will we see him as a young adult? Could we explore more of the afterlife’s musical wonders?

Either way, Pixar has big shoes (or should we say, guitar strings?) to fill. 🎸✨
