Turning 100 is a huge milestone, and for one woman in England, it came with an unexpected invitation from none other than Buckingham Palace. But instead of packing her bags for a royal celebration, Olive Marston had other plans… and honestly, they sound a lot more fun.

Olive, who shares her April 21 birthday with what would have been the 100th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, was invited to attend a special reception hosted by King Charles III. The event would bring together centenarians and celebrate the legacy of the late Queen. A once-in-a-lifetime invitation for most people.

But Olive politely declined. Not because she couldn’t go, but because she was already “too busy.” And her schedule? Completely full of something much more her style… parties.

She already had a village celebration planned, a family party on the go, and even her craft club was throwing her a celebration. Her reaction to the palace invite was simple and very on-brand: “How could I go? I have a village party, a party for my family, and the crafts are giving me a party. It’s all parties.”

At 100 years old, Olive isn’t slowing down either. Known as the “Queen of Heather,” she’s deeply involved in her community, still baking cakes weekly for her craft group, and continuing her lifelong habit of giving back through volunteering and charity work. She even has a road named after her in her village and received an MBE in 1999 for her contributions.

Her life has been built around connection, kindness, and community, and she says that’s exactly what keeps her going. Even now, she says her motto is simple: “You can do it.”
