Things to Look Forward to in September 🍂

Welcome to September! The month where it’s 8 degrees when you leave for work, 27 by lunch, and you have absolutely no idea how to dress.

Here’s what we’ve got to look forward to:

Sports are back in full force. The NFL season kicks off, the U.S. Open wraps up September 13th, and MLB playoffs begin at the end of the month. Basically, your TV remote is about to start putting in overtime.

At the movies: Cars is back in theatres for its 20th anniversary, because apparently Lightning McQueen is now old enough to make us feel old. We’re also getting Practical Magic 2, Resident Evil, Brad Pitt in Heart of the Beast, and an Avengers: Endgame re-release.

TV season is back! Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, Survivor, The Amazing Race, Shark Tank, The Simpsons and SNL all return. Translation: cancelling plans and blaming the weather is socially acceptable again.

Fall officially arrives September 22nd. Although in Simcoe County, fall actually begins the first morning you turn the heated seats on, then need the A/C three hours later.

We’ve also got Labour Day, Grandparents Day, Talk Like a Pirate Day, Oktoberfest and, most importantly, National Coffee Day on September 29th. Finally, a holiday we can all get behind.

One piece of bad news: the Nintendo Switch 2 jumps $50 in price September 1st. Parents, Christmas just got slightly more expensive. 🎄💸

Around Simcoe County...

👻 Ghost Tours at Discovery Harbour return September 5th. Haunted buildings, moving chess pieces and mysterious figures. So basically, a normal night in Penetanguishene.

⭐ Simcoe Rising Stars auditions happen September 13th at Traditions Banquet Hall.

🫖 COPE Service Dogs High Tea is also September 13th at the Barrie Golf & Country Club.

💜 Take Back the Night happens September 17th at Barrie City Hall.

⛳ And the 12th Annual Christmas Cheer Golf Tournament tees off September 23rd.

So goodbye summer, hello September: football, fall TV, pumpkin everything, chilly mornings and the annual Simcoe County tradition of refusing to put the patio furniture away because “we might get one more nice weekend.”
