THE EMMYS ARE LEAVING REGULAR TV 📺

Published October 7, 2026

In a move that feels extremely appropriate for an awards show celebrating television...

The Emmys are leaving television.

Starting in 2027, the Emmy Awards will move to Prime Video as part of a new six-year deal with Amazon and the Television Academy.

It's a pretty significant change. The Emmys have aired on traditional broadcast networks every year since 1955.

The good news? You won't need a Prime subscription to watch. The ceremony will continue to stream for free.

The move also helps solve one of the Emmys' biggest scheduling headaches: football.

The September ceremony regularly competes against the NFL on Sunday or Monday nights, which is basically the television equivalent of opening a lemonade stand beside a Costco.

The Oscars are making a similar move, heading to YouTube in 2029.

So the Emmys are going to Prime. The Oscars are going to YouTube.

At this rate, by 2030 the Grammys will be live on Facebook Marketplace.
