What Do You Do When You Hear A Strange Noise In Your House During The Night?
We’ve all been there—suddenly woken up by a strange noise in the house. Whether it’s a creaky floorboard or something that sounds like a door opening, those noises can jolt you up and send your mind racing. But what do we actually do when we hear these mysterious sounds?

According to a new survey, people have quite a range of responses. Here are the top six ways we handle those unexpected bumps in the night.
Wait for Round Two
Some of us prefer to play it cool and wait to hear if there’s another noise before doing anything. After all, it could just be the house settling, right?
Play Detective
For the brave ones among us, getting out of bed to investigate is the go-to move. Whether it’s a quick peek around the corner or a full sweep of the house, these night owls aren’t letting any noise go unchecked.
Dog’s on Duty
Pet owners often rely on their furry friends for a heads-up. If the dog isn’t barking, it’s probably nothing—or at least that’s the hope!
Send in the Partner
Some prefer the buddy system, nudging their significant other to go check it out. It’s a classic move that combines teamwork with a little bit of self-preservation.
Security Check
In the age of technology, many turn to their home security systems for reassurance. A quick glance at the security feed or a check on the app can save a lot of stress.
Weapon at the Ready
And then there are those who immediately grab something nearby to use as a weapon. Whether it’s a baseball bat or a trusty lamp, they’re ready to defend their territory.
The survey also uncovered some interesting beliefs about what might be causing those noises. A solid 19% of people immediately think it’s a burglar, while 13% jump to the conclusion that it’s a ghost. Yes, you read that right—ghosts!
So next time you’re woken up by a strange noise, know that you’re not alone in your midnight musings. Whether you choose to investigate, rely on your dog, or send in your partner, everyone has their own way of dealing with those nocturnal disturbances. Stay safe, and may your nights be peaceful (and ghost-free)!
