Who You Gonna Call? Millennials, Apparently 👻📺

Published May 11, 2026

Dust off the proton packs and prepare to hear that theme song stuck in your head for the next six business days… because Dan Aykroyd is officially returning to the world of Ghostbusters.

Netflix has announced that the Canadian comedy legend and original Ghostbusters star is joining the upcoming animated series as an executive producer.

And honestly? If there’s anyone who should still be involved with Ghostbusters, it’s the guy who helped create the whole wonderfully weird paranormal empire in the first place.

The Ghostbusters Universe Keeps Expanding 👻

The new animated series is being developed by Netflix alongside Sony Pictures Animation and is expected to arrive in 2027. Shouts out to the original Saturday morning cartoon...

Details are still pretty locked down tighter than the ghost containment unit, but Netflix says the series will be based on the beloved Ghostbusters universe.

Which means:

  • ghosts
  • slime
  • sarcastic chaos
  • and at least one character absolutely ignoring safety protocols

So basically, business as usual.

This Franchise Refuses to Die (Which Feels Appropriate)

At this point, Ghostbusters has evolved into one of those rare franchises that somehow works across generations.

Boomers loved the originals.
Gen X memorized every line.
Millennials grew up watching reruns on cable.
And now Gen Alpha will probably discover it through streaming while asking:
“Wait… phones used to have cords?”

Dan Aykroyd Was Always the Heart of the Weird Stuff

While Bill Murray brought the sarcasm and Harold Ramis brought the deadpan genius, Dan Aykroyd was always the franchise’s true paranormal superfan.

The man genuinely loves ghosts, UFOs, weird science, and everything spooky-adjacent. Half the charm of Ghostbusters is that Aykroyd absolutely believed every bizarre idea could somehow work. And honestly? He was right.

Also… Canada Wins Again 🇨🇦

Never hurts to remind people that one of the masterminds behind Ghostbusters is Canadian.

Which means somewhere in another timeline, there’s a version of the movie where the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man attacks a Tim Hortons while someone apologizes to a ghost.

Final Thoughts

No cast details yet. No plot details. No trailer.

But:

  • animated Ghostbusters
  • Dan Aykroyd involved
  • spooky nostalgia
  • streaming in 2027

That’s enough to get an entire generation emotionally preparing to buy tiny toy proton packs again.

And honestly? That sounds pretty cool. 👻
