NEW TERRY FOX DOCUMENTARY FEATURES NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN FOOTAGE 🇨🇦

More than 45 years after Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope, we're about to see his incredible journey in a way Canadians haven't seen before.

A new trailer has been released for the documentary Run Terry Run, which features newly recovered footage from Fox's historic 1980 attempt to run across Canada and raise money for cancer research.

And we're not talking about a few forgotten clips.

Filmmaker Sean Menard uncovered nearly 100 reels of archival footage that had been sitting in a Toronto storage unit.

The film was originally shot by filmmaker John Simpson and several camera operators who followed Terry beginning on the East Coast. Simpson used some of it for a 1981 CBC documentary, but believed the remaining footage had eventually been thrown away.

Instead, it was sitting in storage...

just a few blocks from Menard's home.

Menard had been searching for better-quality, first-hand footage of Terry's run and, with help from the Terry Fox Foundation, eventually tracked down the reels and had them restored in 4K.

The documentary takes a different approach, too. Rather than relying on traditional on-camera interviews, the story unfolds through the restored footage and voices of people who were actually there.

That includes Terry's friend and van driver Doug Alward, his younger brother Darrell Fox, journalist Leslie Scrivener, and former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Darryl Sittler, who famously joined Terry during part of his run through Toronto.

Most importantly, we'll also hear Terry Fox himself.

He was only 21 years old, running on a prosthetic leg after losing his right leg to cancer, with the goal of crossing this enormous country and raising money for cancer research.

He couldn't finish that run.

But Canadians made sure his mission never stopped.

Run Terry Run will have its festival premiere at TIFF next month, giving us a remarkable new window into one of the most important stories in Canadian history.

After all these years, we're not just hearing Terry Fox's story again.

We're getting to see more of it through the eyes of the people who were actually there. 🇨🇦
