Adam Sandler Swings Back Into Action in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’

Published March 18, 2025

It’s been nearly 30 years since Adam Sandler first teed off as Happy Gilmore, and now, he’s making a comeback. Netflix just dropped the teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, proving that Happy—and his legendary swing—aren’t finished with golf just yet.

In the original 1996 film, we watched Gilmore, a failed hockey player, unexpectedly become a golf sensation, taking on the arrogant Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) in one of the most memorable sports comedies of all time. Now, in the highly anticipated sequel, Happy is back on the green after a long hiatus.

A New Challenge on the Course
The trailer hints at an older, wiser—but still unpredictable—Happy Gilmore getting back into the game. "I haven’t swung a club in years," Sandler’s character admits, setting the stage for a nostalgic and hilarious return. Meanwhile, Julie Bowen reprises her role as Virginia Venit, offering Happy some encouragement: “Let them see the Happy I fell in love with.”

This time, Happy isn't just taking on the golf course—he’s facing a new generation of competitors, including some of today’s biggest golf stars. Expect plenty of over-the-top antics, iconic one-liners, and, of course, some aggressive putter-throwing.

Cameos Galore
Fans of the original will be excited to see Christopher McDonald’s return as Shooter McGavin, but the sequel also boasts an impressive lineup of celebrity cameos. NFL star Travis Kelce, music icons Bad Bunny and Eminem, and even Ben Stiller (potentially reprising his hilarious uncredited role as Hal) all make appearances. The film will also feature top golfers like Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau, adding an authentic touch to the competition.

Keeping the Golf Real
According to Chad Mumm of Pro Shop Studios, which is co-producing the film, Sandler wanted Happy Gilmore 2 to bring the same authenticity to golf as his 2022 basketball film, Hustle, did for hoops. The filmmakers brought in real golf pros to ensure the action feels legit—while still delivering plenty of laughs.

When Can You Watch?
Mark your calendars! Happy Gilmore 2 is set to premiere on Netflix on July 25, bringing back all the chaotic energy, trash-talking, and unexpected underdog triumphs that made the original a classic.

Are you ready for another round with Happy? Let’s just hope Shooter McGavin is.
