Barrie Bus Fares: Some Rising, Some Falling

Riding the bus in Barrie will cost more, or less, in the new year – depending on how you pay. City Council Monday night approved an increase for all monthly passes, as well as the cash fare for seniors. The cash price for seniors (65+) will rise 40 cents to $3.00. Ride Cards (in 10/20 ride increments) will go down in price by 20 cents per ride for both children aged 6-12 and seniors 65 and older, to a price of $2.10. A staff report indicates most Barrie seniors purchase ride cards than use cash fares. Barrie Transit will also introduce a new $7.50 day pass that allows for unlimited rides along Barrie Transit for one day. The changes take effect March 1, 2016. They are the first changes in the fare structure since 2013.

• Monthly Passes: Adults rise to $86 from $82.40; students to $66 from $63.85; children to $56 from $54; seniors too $56 from $54
• Cash Fares: Seniors rise to $3.00 from $2.60; Adults, students, childrens cash fare fare remains at $3.00; children 5 and under still ride for free
• Ride Cards: Seniors and children decrease to $2.10 from $2.30; Adults remain at $2.60, students at $2.30
• Four-Month semester pass for Georgian College students rises to $255 from $247
