Gen Z's Newest Insult Is... “Polyester” 👚

Just when you finally figured out what “mid,” “delulu,” and “no cap” mean, Gen Z has apparently added another insult to the dictionary:
POLYESTER. Yes. The fabric.
The stuff your parents wore in the '70s because you could spill an entire fondue on it, wipe it off, and still make it to the disco.
Gen Z is now using “polyester” as an insult for something cheap, fake, tacky, or trying too hard to look expensive.
Basically, if something looks impressive on Instagram but feels a little artificial... Polyester.

The insult reportedly started in online video-editing communities and has now spread across TikTok, Twitch, fashion discussions, and meme culture.
For example, an 18-year-old recently posted a video describing his dream life in his 20s: living in a New York penthouse, drinking fancy coffee, playing tennis, travelling to Europe, and letting AI do his work.

Sounds pretty good.
Except one of the top comments simply said:
“Polyester lifestyle.”
Translation for anyone over 40:
“Calm down, Rockefeller. You still live with your parents.”
And Gen Z isn't just using polyester as an insult.
Some young people are actively trying to remove polyester clothing from their closets, with videos about finding better-quality fabrics attracting millions of views.
Which means we've somehow reached the point where teenagers are checking clothing labels more carefully than their mothers.
But I do love that Gen Z thinks they've discovered that polyester is cheap. Your grandmother knew that in 1978. She just didn't care because her pants never wrinkled.
And before Gen Z gets too confident about declaring war on older fabrics... Nobody tell them about corduroy.
Because once they discover pants that make a swish-swish-swish noise every time you walk...
We're getting a whole new vocabulary.
