Mike Myers is putting his elbows up for Prime Minister Mark Carney—and for Canada’s sovereignty.

The Toronto-born comedian stars in a new political ad supporting Carney, taking playful jabs at U.S. President Donald Trump while tapping into Canadians’ patriotic pride.

A Very Canadian Quiz

The nearly one-minute ad, posted to X, shows Carney and Myers watching a Team Canada hockey game. Both are decked out in matching jerseys as Carney playfully quizzes the former Saturday Night Live star to test his Canadian credentials.

After questioning Myers’ time living in the U.S., Carney fires off some classic Canuck trivia:

🧸 “Do you remember Mr. Dressup? What were the names of Mr. Dressup’s two puppet friends?”
✅ “Casey and Finnegan.”

🏒 “You’re a defenceman defending a two-on-one, what do you do?”
✅ Myers nails it.

🌡️ “What are the two seasons in Toronto?”
✅ Winter and construction, obviously.

Impressed, Carney admits: “Wow, you really are Canadian.”

‘There Will Always Be a Canada’

The ad wraps up with a moment that hits at the heart of recent political tensions.

🔴 Myers: “Let me ask you, Mr. Prime Minister, will there always be a Canada?”
🔴 Carney: “There will always be a Canada.”

With that, Myers delivers a final nod to the Elbows Up, Canada movement: “Alright, elbows up.”

As the ad fades out, Myers’ Team Canada jersey is seen from behind—emblazoned with the slogan “Never 51”.

Trump’s Takeover Talk

The ad, which has racked up over 4.7 million views, is a direct response to Trump’s repeated claims that Canada is a “serious contender” to become America’s 51st state. Since returning to office last November, he has even referred to former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as a “governor”.

With Canadian sovereignty in the spotlight, it seems like Carney is hoping to rally voters with humour—and hockey.
