Persian Gulf Getting Too Hot To Handle?

It’s already hot around the Persian Gulf, but a MIT study suggests by the turn of the century some cities around the Gulf may be too hot for the human body to tolerate. Study co-author Elfatih Eltahir, an MIT environmental engineering professor, says if carbon dioxide emissions continue at their current pace the heat index – which combines heat and humidity – could climb as high as 73 Celsius (165 Fahrenheit) for as long as six hours. So hot that the human body can’t get rid of heat. “You can go to a wet sauna and put the temperature up to 35C or 95 F. You can bear it for a while, now think of that at an extended exposure”.
