80% of Canadians Think Our Thanksgiving Is Better Than Americas
Thanksgiving might be synonymous with turkey, football, and Black Friday sales south of the border, but here in Canada, we celebrate a slightly different kind of feast. A recent Angus Reid survey reveals some interesting facts about what makes Canadian Thanksgiving so special.
Sure, American Thanksgiving gets all the hype, but Canadians are proud of their own tradition. Canadian women seem to be especially fond of our Thanksgiving, with 84% preferring it over the American version, compared to 75% of men.
We see ours as a more intimate affair, focused on quality time with loved ones amidst the vibrant backdrop of fall foliage. Forget the stress of massive shopping sprees – Canadian Thanksgiving is about enjoying a delicious turkey dinner (with all the fixings, of course!) and appreciating the harvest season.
That doesn't mean we don't admire about the American way of doing things. 21% of Canadians gave a shout-out to the holiday thanks to Black Friday and football. But many of us also think it's too close to Christmas and too far into fall to truly enjoy the season.
How Canadians Prefer To Celebrate Thanksgiving
Canadians seem to favor mid-sized celebrations, with over half planning gatherings of 5-9 people. However, there's room for all preferences – nearly 25% prefer smaller, intimate dinners with 2 to 4 people and the remainder enjoy larger get-togethers with 10 to 20 people.
And what's a Thanksgiving dinner without the star of the show?
The survey also looked at turkey size preferences. Canadians seem to be a practical bunch, with 40% opting for mid-sized birds (10-14 pounds). Interestingly, Quebec leans towards smaller turkeys, likely reflecting their preference for more intimate gatherings.
On the other hand, Ontario and British Columbia boast bigger appetites, with a significant portion choosing turkeys over 15 pounds!
So, this Thanksgiving, raise a glass to the things we hold dear – good company, delicious food, and the beauty of fall.
