Surprise Sting: Quebec Man Finds Scorpion in Costco Bananas
Imagine picking up a bunch of bananas from Costco, only to discover an unexpected visitor hiding inside ... a scorpion!
That's exactly what happened to a man in Laval, Que., who got more than he bargained for during his grocery run.
A Sting to Remember
According to reports, the unsuspecting shopper found himself on the wrong end of a scorpion sting after unwrapping his bananas at home. Ouch! Describing the pain as "twice the sting of a wasp," he quickly realized this wasn't your average grocery mishap.
The Journey of a Stowaway
The scorpion, believed to have hitchhiked all the way from Guatemala, was promptly captured and now resides in a jar—a curious addition to any household, to say the least!
This incident has caught the attention of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), which has launched an investigation into how this arachnid adventurer ended up in Canada. Surprisingly, this isn't the first time such a discovery has made headlines. Similar incidents were reported in Nova Scotia in 2017 and Montreal in 2023, proving that sometimes, even our fruit can come with a wild surprise.
While scorpion stings are rarely fatal, they can pack a painful punch. So next time you're reaching for those bananas, maybe give them a second glance—you never know who might be hiding among the bunch!
