10 Foods You Should NEVER Put in the Freezer

Published March 7, 2025

Happy Frozen Food Day! Yep, that’s a real thing—declared by President Reagan 41 years ago. While some foods thrive in the icy depths of your freezer, others… not so much.

Here are 10 foods you should NEVER freeze unless you enjoy weird textures and questionable flavours.

1. Milk 🥛

Think twice before tossing that jug in the freezer—milk separates when thawed. The same goes for cream-based soups.

2. Cooked Pasta 🍝

Unless you’re into gummy, mushy noodles, freezing pasta is a no-go. (Just freeze the sauce instead!)

3. Raw Potatoes 🥔

Potatoes contain a lot of water, and freezing them raw turns them into a grainy, mushy mess. Cook them first for better results.

4. Eggs in the Shell 🥚

The liquid inside expands and cracks the shell. If you really need to freeze eggs (because, inflation), whisk them first.

5. Fried Foods 🍗

Crispy fried chicken? Yes. Soggy, freezer-burnt fried chicken? No. Freezing fried foods ruins that crispy goodness.

6. Soft Cheeses 🧀

Cream cheese, ricotta, and even yogurt separate and become grainy. Not exactly spreadable.

7. Pasta Salad with Mayo 🥗

Like milk and soft cheeses, mayo-based salads turn into an unappetizing, separated mess after freezing.

8. Fresh Herbs 🌿

The freezer wrecks their texture and dulls their flavour. Stick to drying or refrigerating them instead.

9. Cucumbers 🥒

Since they’re mostly water, freezing cucumbers turns them into a slimy, mushy disaster. Not ideal for your salad.

10. Coffee Beans ☕

Lots of people do it, but freezing coffee messes with the flavour—plus, it absorbs other smells. Nobody wants garlic-infused espresso.

So, before you chuck something in the freezer, think twice—some foods just aren’t meant to chill. 🚫❄️
