Sleep Trends Uncovered — Do These Viral Hacks Actually Work?

Published March 18, 2025

TikTok and wellness influencers sure have plenty of ideas, but do they actually help?

We’re breaking down the TOP FIVE viral sleep trends and whether they’re worth trying.

1. Mouth Taping

Placing a small piece of medical-grade tape over your lips to encourage nasal breathing while sleeping. Advocates say it can reduce snoring, improve oxygen intake, and even define your jawline (though the last claim is a bit of a stretch).

Does it work? Sort of. There is some evidence that nasal breathing improves sleep quality, and one small study suggested mouth taping could reduce sleep apnea severity. However, experts recommend consulting a doctor before trying this trend, especially if you have breathing issues.

2. Grounding Sheets

Also called earthing sheets, these bedsheets are woven with conductive materials like silver or copper and plugged into an outlet to supposedly connect your body to the Earth’s electrical charge. The promise? Better sleep, less inflammation, and increased energy.

Does it work? Nope. There is zero scientific evidence supporting grounding sheets for sleep benefits. If you want better sleep, stick to a comfy mattress and a cool, dark room.

3. Sleepy Girl Mocktail

This TikTok-famous drink blends tart cherry juice, magnesium powder, and sparkling water to help you drift off more easily.

Does it work? A little. Tart cherries contain melatonin, and magnesium can support relaxation. But the effects are mild, and there’s no guarantee this will work for everyone. However, if it helps you create a relaxing bedtime routine, it might be worth a shot.

4. Digital Detox

The idea here is to avoid screens before bed because blue light suppresses melatonin, making it harder to fall asleep.

Does it work? Not really. Sleep scientists say screen time isn’t the villain it’s made out to be. As long as you keep a consistent bedtime and wind down properly, using a phone or watching TV before bed won’t wreck your sleep.

5. Sleep Divorce

Sleeping in separate beds or bedrooms to improve rest is becoming more common among couples.

Does it work? Yes! Sleep disruptions from a partner’s movements, snoring, or different temperature preferences can ruin sleep quality. Sleeping apart can be a practical solution that helps both partners get better rest—and actually strengthen their relationship.

The Verdict

Some trends have a little science to back them up, while others are pure fluff.

If you're serious about better sleep, stick to proven methods: a consistent bedtime, a dark and cool room, and good sleep hygiene. Sweet dreams!
