Esprit, one of the most iconic brands of the '80s and '90s, is officially making its return to Canada, and you'll find it in a place that nobody saw coming: Walmart.

The retailer has launched an exclusive collection featuring colourful sweaters, relaxed denim, layering pieces and everyday basics that are heavily inspired by the brand's heyday. In other words, all the clothes you begged your parents for in 1997 are back, except now you're the one paying for them.

For Gen X and millennials, Esprit was practically a rite of passage. It was the era of school dances, MuchMusic countdowns and convincing your parents that a logo sweatshirt was somehow a "necessity."

Meanwhile, Gen Z has discovered the brand and is embracing its vintage vibe, proving once again that fashion trends operate on a mysterious 30-year boomerang cycle.

Founded in San Francisco in 1968, Esprit became a massive fashion staple throughout the '80s and '90s, known for its bright colours, laid-back California style and effortless cool. For many Canadians, just hearing the name brings back memories of mall food courts, disposable cameras and trying to record songs off the radio without the announcer talking over the intro.

The new collection is available now at select Walmart stores and online, with sizes ranging from XS to XXL.

Of course, if you were a teenager in the '90s, this announcement raises an important question: if Esprit is back at Walmart, does that mean we're only one step away from getting a San Francisco music store, a BiWay and a bargain bin full of cassette singles?
