Amazon Wants to Deliver Your Packages... with Humanoid Robots Now š¤š¦

Remember when Amazon promised us drone deliveries? That was 12 years ago, and despite all the hype, the drone drop-off dream is still only available in a few lucky neighbourhoods. So, whatās next?
Humanoid robots.
Yes, Amazon is now trainingĀ humanoid AI robotsĀ to hop out of electric delivery vans and hand-deliver your packagesābecause nothing says āwelcome to the futureā like being greeted by a bipedal robot holding your bubble-wrapped air fryer.
The company says this tech is āalmost readyā for real-world testing, which is cute considering the drone rollout has been stuck in beta since the Obama years.
The Delivery Bots Have a Playground, Apparently
To prep these robo-couriers for the mean streets of suburbia, Amazon has built anĀ indoor humanoid parkĀ at one of its San Francisco offices. Think of it like a robot gymāabout the size of a coffee shopācomplete with obstacles to test how well these bots can navigate real-life terrain (curbs, steps, rogue garden gnomes, etc.).
The plan? Stick these robo-posties intoĀ Rivian electric vans, drive them around, and let them walk up to your door like itās normal for a piece of machinery to show up with your toilet paper subscription.
Warehouse Bots: The Real MVPs
Meanwhile, Amazonās already using a fleet ofĀ autonomous robots inside warehouses, which makes sense. Theyāre efficient, precise, and donāt need coffee breaks. But humanoid delivery bots? Thatās a much taller order (literally).
Between the cost of development and the extremely human habit of walking up stairs and avoiding puddles, the economics are still pretty wild. Especially when you consider that gig workers are still cheaper ā and reportedly easier to manage when you donāt mind skimping on bathroom breaks.

But, Hey, Itās Amazon
This is the same company that made same-day shipping a thing and put Alexa in your lamp. So maybe we shouldnāt be shocked that theyāre planningĀ decades. Still, the idea of a humanoid robot casually strolling up your driveway to drop off batteries feels equal parts fascinating and terrifying.
Just remember to say āthank youā ā you never know when the machines will gain sentience.
