Baby Bear Breaks Into Nursing Home, Leaves With Snacks (and a Few New Grandmas)

Well, here’s a story that proves even wildlife can't resist a good Rice Krispies treat and a cozy nap spot.
In Indiana County, Pennsylvania, a baby black bear decided to channel its inner Goldilocks and waltz right into St. Andrew’s Village nursing home—because apparently, the porridge wasn’t quite doing it anymore.
The bold little furball broke in by smashing a window (rude), then spent a solid 15 minutes exploring the place like it was a Bed Bath & Beyond clearance sale. It even climbed into a few resident beds, giving staff and seniors alike the kind of surprise no one needs before their morning tea.
But credit where credit’s due—Charlene Elliott, a lead nursing assistant and now honorary wildlife wrangler, kept her cool. She calmly told everyone to shut their doors to keep the bear from becoming an uninvited roommate.
And instead of going full action-movie mode and chasing the bear out, the team went with an expert-level grandma move: they lured it out with Rice Krispies squares. Yes, really.

That bear didn’t stand a chance. While the cub chomped on sweet marshmallowy goodness, staff slowly guided it out, with a walker, no less. Because in this house, we use our mobility aids for everything, thank you very much.
Once safely outside, a local game warden swooped in and trapped the bear with—what else—donuts and pastries. It was like a Tim Hortons trap, honestly. The little guy was safely relocated to a proper forest, hopefully somewhere with plenty of berries and fewer startled retirees.
No residents were harmed, but hearts were stolen—along with half the dessert cart.
Moral of the story? Always keep Rice Krispies on hand. You never know when you’ll need to bribe a bear... or a toddler. Basically, the same energy.
