Halloween Hype: 23% of People Are More Excited for Spooky Season in 2024

Every year, it feels like Halloween sneaks up on us. Or maybe that's just me clinging to the last rays of summer, trying to ignore the fact that autumn is in full swing.

But with Halloween less than two weeks away, excitement is building, and a new survey reveals how people feel about the big day.

This year, 23% of people say they’re looking forward to Halloween more than usual. On the other hand, 24% admit they’re less excited, while 53% stay steady with their normal levels of spooky spirit.

For those pumped about Halloween, 56% expect to spend more cash on costumes, candy, and decorations. Another 28% plan to spend about the same as last year and 10% are keeping their budgets a little tighter.

Candy Spending: Sweet Choices for 2024

When it comes to candy, mini-sized treats are still the top choice, with 54% of people planning to hand out mixed mini-candy bars.

But some are going big—22% say they’ll give out regular-sized candy bars, while 10% are planning to be the MVP of their neighbourhood, treating trick-or-treaters to king-sized candy bars.

Top Halloween Costumes and Trends for 2024

Google Trends recently released its annual list of the most-searched Halloween costumes, and it's packed with some creative and nostalgic picks. Here are the top 10 overall costumes for 2024:

  1. Shrunken Head Bob from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (a.k.a. "Shrinker Bob")
  2. Raygun, the Australian breakdancer
  3. CatNap from the horror game Poppy Playtime
  4. Delores from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Halloween Party Trends and Spooky Foods

For those hosting a Halloween bash, the top party themes are inspired by Beetlejuice, murder mystery games, and classic skeleton decorations. As for spooky snacks, mummy hot dogs, dirt cups, and candy apples are the go-to favourites for 2024.

So, whether you’re going all out or keeping it low-key, there’s no shortage of Halloween fun this year!
