Ever Been Stuck at a Red Light That Won't Turn Green? Here's How to Trigger It!
We've all been there ... sitting at a red light that seems to be on an endless cycle, just to get under your skin.
Not the regular ones on timers, but the sensor-based lights.
Often, it’s because the sensor hasn’t detected your vehicle. Fortunately, there are a couple of tricks you can try to make the light change.
Here are two methods to get that stubborn light to turn green. Unless the traffic light is completely malfunctioning, one of these should do the trick!
1. Adjust Your Position
This might seem straightforward, but there’s a bit of science involved.
Many sensor-based traffic lights use induction loops, which are wires embedded in the pavement. Your vehicle needs to be directly over these loops to trigger the sensor.
It’s also possible you might have pulled too far forward.
What to look for: Examine the road surface for lines that differ in color from the rest of the pavement, often darker. You might see a box-like outline where the induction loops are installed.
2. Use Your High Beams
Certain traffic signals are equipped with cameras or infrared sensors.
Flashing your high beams can sometimes activate these sensors and get the light to change.
What to look for: Check around the traffic light for devices that resemble security cameras, like the ones you see in stores or banks.
These might be mounted in metal boxes above the road.
Next time you find yourself stuck at an uncooperative red light, try these tricks. They just might get you back on the move!
