Save Your Amazon Delivery Driver’s Back This Holiday Season: Here’s How!

So, stop ordering them!
Published December 13, 2023

As the holiday season approaches, our Amazon delivery drivers are busier than Santa's elves, tirelessly dropping off a never-ending stream of gifts and packages. With long days and hardly any breaks, it’s crucial to consider their well-being. One Amazon employee has some advice for us all: think twice before ordering certain heavy items online. Instead, why not make a quick trip to the store and save your delivery driver a major backache?

Here are three items that your Amazon driver should get paid extra to deliver but don’t…

Cat Litter

Cat owners, we get it. You go through litter faster than your cat tears up the new Christmas tree. Ordering online is super convenient, but for your delivery driver, it’s a nightmare. A single package of cat litter can weigh up to 20 pounds. Monique, an Amazon driver, shared her experiences lugging countless bags of litter to people’s doors, and trust us, it’s no easy feat.

Bulk Dog Food

Another pet-related item that makes drivers groan is bulk dog food. These bags are heavy and awkward to carry, often weighing up to 50 pounds. So, if you’ve got a hungry hound at home, maybe pop by the pet store for that jumbo bag instead of adding it to your online cart.

Bottled Water

We all know how heavy a case of bottled water can be. They’re sold in packs of up to 24 and can weigh over 30 pounds. If you must order bottled water, consider leaving a refreshing bottle out for your driver as a small thank you for their hard work.

The Reality of Amazon Drivers' Workload

Delivering these hefty items day in and day out can become overwhelming, especially during the busy holiday season. Many Amazon drivers make more than 100 deliveries in a 10-12 hour day, with some even using their own cars and smartphones to get the job done. Currently, there are a whopping 275,000 Amazon drivers out there making sure we get our packages on time.

A Little Appreciation Goes a Long Way

So, next time you’re shopping online, remember the hardworking delivery drivers. A little consideration can go a long way in making their day a bit easier. And hey, it might even give you an excuse to stretch your legs and get some fresh air!

How Much Do Amazon Drivers Make in Ontario?

Curious about how much these dedicated workers earn? The average Amazon delivery salary in Canada is $38,025 per year or $19.50 per hour. Entry-level positions start at $35,100 per year, while the most experienced drivers can make up to $42,900 per year.

Let’s spread some holiday cheer and lighten the load for our Amazon heroes!

Happy holidays and happy shopping, everyone!
