The Mona Lisa is Moving to Her Own Gallery

Published January 30, 2025

One of the world’s most famous artworks is getting a new home!

The Mona Lisa is set to move into her own dedicated gallery at the Louvre, giving visitors better access and shorter wait times to see Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece.

But there's a catch—foreign tourists will help fund the move. Ticket prices for non-European Union visitors will increase in 2026 to help cover the Louvre’s $800 million renovation.

Since 80% of the museum’s annual visitors are from abroad, this price hike is expected to bring in major funding.

Why Is the Mona Lisa Moving?

🔹 More space for visitors to view the painting comfortably
🔹 Shorter wait times—no more fighting the crowds!
🔹 Better protection—the painting has been targeted by vandals multiple times, leading to its placement behind bulletproof glass since the 1950s

For now, you can still see Lisa’s famous smile in the Louvre’s Denon Wing, but soon, she’ll have a room of her own fit for an icon! 🎨✨
