Canadians are raising their elbows—and their voices—to push back against the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state.

Hundreds gathered at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto on Saturday, as part of a rally organized by Elbows Up, Canada—a grassroots movement defending Canadian sovereignty. This marks their second major demonstration, following a March 9 rally on Parliament Hill in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated remarks about Canada joining the U.S.

Best Signs From the Rally
If there’s one thing Canadians excel at, it’s creativity—and their protest signs did not disappoint. Some of the best included:
🇨🇦 “Don’t poke the goose”
🇨🇦 “Never the 51st State”
🇨🇦 “We stand on Guard” (A+ for effort!)
🇨🇦 “Hands off our Beavers”
🇨🇦 “Back off, eh!”

And, in a true blast of Canadian nostalgia, someone even brought a Casey and Finnegan sign!

While the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state seems unlikely, one thing is clear: Canadians aren’t having it.
