Turns Out Some "Rich People" Things Aren't Actually That Expensive

Published July 8, 2026

Have you ever seen someone doing something and thought, "Well, that must be nice... if you're rich."

Turns out, a lot of those fancy-looking habits don't actually cost a fortune.

People online have been sharing the "rich people things" they discovered are surprisingly affordable, and some of these might change your life... or at least make you feel like you have your finances together.

Here are some of the best ones:

• Tailoring your clothes.
Nothing screams "I have my life together" like pants that actually fit. A good local tailor can make inexpensive clothes look surprisingly high-end.

• Art galleries and exhibits.
A lot of them are free. You get culture, air conditioning, and a chance to stand in front of a painting pretending you totally understand it.

• Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
Didn't everyone's parents make these seem like they were locked in a Swiss vault? Turns out they're pretty affordable. We've all been living a delicious lie.

• Good wine.
Wine experts say price doesn't always equal quality. If you think your $15 bottle tastes great... congratulations, you've beaten the system.

• Hiring a house cleaner once a month.
It's not cheap, but it's also not just for billionaires anymore. Sometimes paying someone else to battle the dust bunnies is worth every penny.

• Tennis.
Public courts are everywhere. Grab a racket and a few balls, and suddenly you're one sweater tied around your shoulders away from looking country club rich.

• Handing out full-size chocolate bars on Halloween.
Costco can make you the most legendary house on the block... until 400 kids mysteriously "discover" your neighbourhood.

• Salmon.
Fancy enough to impress dinner guests... affordable enough to occasionally survive the grocery budget.

• Grey Poupon.
It still feels like you should only eat it in the back seat of a limousine.

• A quality leather belt.
Buying one good belt often beats buying five cheap ones that fall apart after six months. Sometimes spending a little more actually saves money.

• Trusted traveller programs.
If you fly often, paying once for faster security can be worth every cent. Time is money... especially when you're standing behind someone taking off seventeen pieces of jewellery.

• Cloth napkins.
For some reason, eating spaghetti with a cloth napkin instantly makes you feel like you're in a fancy restaurant... even if dinner came from the freezer aisle.

• Theatre shows.
If you're flexible with dates or willing to grab last-minute tickets, you can sometimes score surprisingly affordable seats.

• Putting chips in a bowl.
Apparently pouring potato chips into a serving bowl instead of eating them straight from the bag makes you feel... sophisticated. Same chips. Different confidence.

• Wearing plain clothes.
Minimalist fashion has convinced everyone that beige sweaters and black T-shirts cost $700.

The biggest takeaway? Sometimes looking rich has less to do with spending more... and more to do with presentation.

Now excuse me while I pour my No Name chips into a ceramic bowl and pretend I'm hosting a cooking show.
