ChatGPT Is Getting a Teen Mode π€π

Parents, teachers, and teenagers, ChatGPT is getting some new rules.
OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Teens, a version of ChatGPT specifically designed for users between 13 and 17 years old, with extra safety features and more emphasis on actually learning instead of simply getting AI to do your homework for you.
So basically, teenagers have finally discovered a technology that says the same thing as their parents:
βNice try. Show your work.β
If a teenager asks ChatGPT for a quick answer to a school assignment, the teen version is designed to steer them toward figuring it out, using questions, explanations, and step-by-step help.
Think less:
βWhat's the answer to question seven?β
And more:
βWhat do YOU think the answer is?β

ChatGPT for Teens will automatically apply when someone says they're between 13 and 17, or when OpenAI's systems estimate that the user is under 18.
It also comes with stronger protections around potentially harmful or inappropriate material, including sexual content, self-harm, and other sensitive areas.
The idea is to make the teen experience safer while encouraging young people to turn to real people for support when that's more appropriate.
There are also parental controls available. Parents and teens can link their accounts, allowing parents to manage certain settings and establish things like quiet hours, while still respecting the teen's privacy.
So for parents wondering whether AI is going to do their kid's entire Grade 10 history project while they play Fortnite...
ChatGPT is now trying to be the responsible adult in the room. Which is nice.
Because anyone raising a teenager knows... We could use the backup.
