Gaga's “Abracadabra” – A Spellbinding Return to Pop Roots

Published February 5, 2025

After teasing fans with mysterious countdowns and cryptic clues, Lady Gaga has finally unveiled her much-anticipated new single, “Abracadabra.” And let me tell you—it’s everything we’ve been craving from her!

The track, which harks back to the iconic sounds of her early hits like “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face,” has been described as a true pop anthem. But what really sets it apart is the bold move Gaga made by debuting it during a GRAMMY Awards commercial break with the mesmerizing music video.

The song itself is a fast-tempo, dance bop that has “Lady Gaga pop classic” written all over it. But it’s not just the sound that has us hooked; the visual experience is equally captivating. Directed by Gaga, Parris Goebel, and Bethany Vargas, the video is nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece. It features Gaga in a thrilling dance battle between the light and dark sides of her persona. The white, ethereal visuals of the first half of the video gradually shift to a darker, more intense aesthetic as Gaga transforms into a crimson queen. Her thorns, her fierce energy—it’s everything we love about her.

But let’s talk about the album. MAYHEM marks Gaga’s official return to her “pop roots,” something she’s been teasing for quite some time. Scheduled for release on March 7, MAYHEM is 14 tracks of pure pop perfection that promises to reinvent the sound we fell in love with while embracing a fresh, fearless perspective. It will include tracks like “Disease” and “Die with a Smile”—the latter of which earned Gaga and her collaborator Bruno Mars a GRAMMY for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance this year.
