Oscars Push Back Nominations Announcement Amid California Wildfires

Published January 14, 2025

Hollywood is hitting pause as California wildfires continue to impact the region. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that the Oscar nominations, originally set for January 16, will now be revealed on January 23.

A Shift in Hollywood’s Schedule

The decision comes as wildfires remain active in the Los Angeles area, leading the Academy to extend its nominations voting period through Friday, January 19. As a result, the highly anticipated nominees luncheon, famous for its annual "class photo," has also been cancelled.

Meanwhile, the Scientific and Technical Awards, initially planned for February 18, will be rescheduled to a later date.

Writers Guild Delays Too

It’s not just the Oscars making adjustments. The Writers Guild of America has also delayed the announcement of their nominees yet again, with no new date set. Their awards ceremony, however, is still slated for February 15.

The Oscars Are Still On

Despite the changes, the 97th Oscars are still a go for March 2 at the iconic Dolby Theatre. The show will air live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET and will also stream on Hulu.

With so much reshuffling happening behind the scenes, let’s hope Hollywood’s biggest night will be worth the wait!
