So… What’s Up with the Weird Embroidery at the End of Towels? 🛁🤔

Published March 17, 2025

Ever tried folding a towel perfectly, only to be foiled by that annoying embroidered strip at the end? Yeah, same. I was convinced it was just there to shrink in the wash and force us to buy more towels. But apparently, it actually serves a purpose.

That little design? It’s called a “dobby border”, and it’s more than just a decorative touch. According to Towel Hub, the dobby border:
🛁 Prevents fraying – So your towel doesn’t unravel after a few washes.
🛁 Boosts absorbency – Because we definitely want our towels to dry us off faster.
🛁 Helps with drying – It lets the towel release moisture more efficiently.
🛁 Improves grip – Ever had a towel slip right off you? The border helps with that!

So, while it may seem like an aesthetic choice (or a towel-folding nightmare), the dobby border is actually a durability and functionality hack. Who knew?!

Now excuse me while I go refold all my towels… 😅
