Study Reveals BMW Drivers Are the Biggest Narcissists on the Road

If you've ever been cut off by a BMW, chances are—it wasn’t a coincidence.
A new study by Scrap Car Comparison has found that BMW drivers are more likely to display narcissistic tendencies than any other car owners.
The Psychology of a BMW Driver
Researchers surveyed 2,000 drivers using an 11-question narcissism test designed to measure traits like:
✅ Self-importance
✅ Lack of empathy
✅ Risk-taking behaviour
The results? BMW owners topped the list.
Electric Car Owners Are Also Guilty
Surprisingly, electric car drivers ranked higher on the narcissism scale than hybrid, petrol, or diesel car owners. That means your Tesla-driving friend who won’t stop talking about their carbon footprint might just love themselves a little too much.
Where Does Your Car Rank?
Participants were scored from 0 to 40, with 40 indicating a high risk of narcissism. The average driver scored 10.46, but some brands stood out more than others.
🚗 Here’s the Top 10 List of Narcissistic Car Owners:
Rank | Car Brand | Average ‘Narcissism’ Score |
1 | BMW | 14.4 |
2 | Mercedes | 12.3 |
3 | Honda | 12.0 |
4 | Audi | 12.0 |
5 | Fiat | 11.6 |
6 | Toyota | 11.0 |
7 | Hyundai | 10.5 |
8 | Ford | 10.3 |
9 | Mazda | 10.0 |
10 | Vauxhall | 9.7 |
Personalized Plates Are Linked to Narcissism
If you’ve ever rolled your eyes at a driver with a custom plate, science says you had good reason. The study also found that personalized plate owners scored nearly double the average narcissism level.
