Justin Trudeau Buys $4.26M Montreal Home as Post-PM Chapter Begins

Published February 12, 2026

Former prime minister Justin Trudeau has officially purchased a new home in Montreal, signalling his return to the city after years in Ottawa.

Property records show the Outremont residence was finalized on Monday through a notary and registered with Quebec’s land registry.

Trudeau, who stepped down as prime minister and Liberal leader earlier in 2025 after nearly a decade in office, recently confirmed plans to move back to Montreal.

The two-storey single-family house spans close to 5,000 square feet and dates back to the 1930s.

Documents indicate he has not moved in yet. The home sold for $4.26 million, while its municipal tax valuation sits higher at about $5.99 million.

The deed lists Trudeau as the sole buyer. Real estate filings also note that he and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau are currently in the process of divorcing.

After years in the official residence bubble, the move marks a quieter, more private phase for the former PM… though “quiet” in Outremont real estate terms still comes with a multi-million-dollar price tag and a lot of curious neighbours.
