UPDATE: Amber Alert Dad Will Not Be Charged

TUESDAY – Toronto Police say charges will not be laid against the father of the baby involved involved in Sunday’s Amber Alert. Police say they have determined the dad was only a few feet away from the vehicle when it was stolen from outside a flea market. Initial reports had suggested he had gone inside the market, leaving his child in the car. The suspect in the car-jacking remains at large.

SUNDAY – Toronto Police continue to look for the suspect in a car theft that led to an Amber Alert being issued late Sunday afternoon. A three-month old boy. A 3-month old boy was in the back seat of the vehicle, which was stolen from outside a flea market in north Toronto (Highway 27 and Albion Road). He was found safe, in the abandoned car, four hours later in the parking lot of a hotel near Dixon Road and Martin Grove. An employee of the hotel heard a baby crying in a car, recognized the vehicle from the Amber Alert and called police. The suspect is described as:

• white
• 5 foot 11 inches, medium build
• 40-45 years old
• short blond hair

Police say they have video images of the suspect from security cameras at the hotel. It’s not clear if he knew there was a baby in the back seat when the vehicle was stolen, or how long the vehicle had been abandoned in the hotel parking lot. The father says he had left the child alone in the car for a matter of seconds; that when he returned, he saw it being driven away. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call their local police or 911.
